Cracking the Code: How Culture Shapes Networking and Professional Relationships
🤝 Active Networking
In the US, "small talk" is THE real superpower for your business. Trust-based relationships are often built through informal discussions, and it’s a 24/7 game! From your neighbor on the plane to your Uber driver, every interaction is an opportunity to build professional connections.
✋ Non-Verbal Language & Enthusiasm
Americans express a lot of enthusiasm through their body language. Don’t be afraid to smile, show your emotions, and use gestures to emphasize your points. Be mindful of the larger personal space in the US compared to France (about 3 feet).
🌭 The Sandwich Method
To give constructive feedback on a project or a performance issue, use the "sandwich" method: start with praise, deliver the key message in the middle, and finish on a positive note. In the US, kindness is essential, even in negative feedback. So, watch out for the “awesome” and “amazing” comments if the core message is actually a critique!
For my American network, what has surprised you the most about working or interacting with the French?
